Santiago, Chile

I went to Santiago after my trip to Argentina, the trip to Chile consisted of multi-cities, all of which had to transit in Santiago. In Chile, I’ve seen Santiago, Easter Island, Torres del Paine in Patagonia and Atacama Desert.

For GCC & Kuwait, we need a visa to enter Chile. If you’re a US passport holder, you do not need a visa.

Let me start off by recommending the Singular Hotel collection for either Santiago or Patagonia .. This is not a paid Ad for them, this is from my personal experience in both hotels which absolutely exceeded my expectations in terms of service, and accommodation as well. The hotel is located in the old town/center of Santiago. My initial booking was at the W Hotel which is located in the new town where the business area is, then I changed hotels prior to arriving to Santiago.

Neighborhoods to explore in Santiago:

Bellavista (Bohemian, street art & night life – my favorite!)
Bellas Artes and Lastarria
Barrio Italia
Patronato (Recoleta)
Centro Historico – The center of Santiago, Centro Historico, boasts the Plaza de Armas, including the post office, Cathedral of Santiago, and the National Historical Museum. Head this way for a history lesson, a cultural experience, street performers, and very good food.)
Parque Bustamante – Café Literario is a cafe located in the middle of the park, good for a chill out after a jog in the park, also if you need to get some work done then thats a good place as well
WHEN IN SANTIAGO:

– Do not miss trying out their chilean cuisine! It’s awesome. I loved the empanadas I tried in Santiago. The Empanadas I liked the most were the street Empanadas. Super delicious!

– An hour away from Santiago is Valparaiso. a UNESCO World Heritage site, a port city on Chile’s coast. It’s known for its steep funiculars and colorful, clifftop homes. La Sebastiana, the quirky former residence of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, is now a museum with far-reaching Pacific views. During the 19th century, an influx of European immigrants left their mark on the city’s architecture and cultural institutions, many of which congregate around downtown’s Plaza Sotomayor.

– Get with you cash, euros or dollars and exchange. Bank ATM machines don’t always work.

– Don’t forget to see the end of the world… go to Patagonia!

– Chilean Spanish, and Spanish Spanish are absolutely not the same lol. I know basic Spanish, and I don’t understand pretty much everything. Kind of.

– Chilean people in Santiago are sooooo nice!!! and helpful.

SAFETY:

To be honest, I felt very safe in Santiago, unlike Buenos Aires! The crime rate in Santiago is low in comparison to neighboring latin american capitals.

I was walking around comfortably, streets were filled with people and tourists in almost all the areas I walked in. I will still very careful with my belongings as pick-pocketing and bag snatching is still common, but it was safe nonetheless.

Having said that, common precautions are always recommended and should be taken. Do not flash people with your clothing, jewelry, watches or any of such things. Go simple, enjoy your time and stay safe.
